NAS is pleased to offer Basic RETRAN training using the Microsoft Teams platform. The next session is scheduled for September 30 through October 11, 2024. The online Basic RETRAN Training covers the same topics as the in-person training. The training will be held in four-hour daily classes over a 10-day duration.

Primary features of the RETRAN-3D code are discussed and include:

• The theoretical basis of the code (balance equations, constitutive models, and neutron kinetics equations).
• The component and special purpose models.
• The steady-state initialization option.
• The meaning and use of various input quantities.
• The selection of input options.
• Appropriate nodalization for the type of analysis being performed.
• The understanding and interpretation of RETRAN results.
• Common modeling practices, pitfalls for the user, and how to resolve them.
• Differences between models in RETRAN-02 and RETRAN-3D.

Each session will begin and end with a question and answer period. A progressive exercise in model building has been integrated into the basic training sessions. The classes will be geared towards MOD005.0, but changes compared to other code versions may be addressed if needed.

The RETRAN Integrated Software Package (RISP) will be used during the sample problem sessions. The sample problems can be run on PCs or workstations. An electronic version of the lecture material and computer sample problem information will be provided.

The cost of the training session is $3,100 for each participant. If your organization is a current member of the RETRAN User Group, a 10% discount will be applied to the training session fee.
